The youngest of 5 children, Huw was born in Maesteg, Mid Glamorgan. He attended Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen and went on to study “Political Theory & Government” at Swansea University.
His first position in Industry was a graduate trainee with Unilever at Port Sunlight in the Wirral. Thereafter Huw joined Philips Industries as Personnel Officer in the business machine sector – the forerunners of electronic computers and moved to Colchester, Essex.
Further moves saw him join two American multinational companies – Harris Corporation, as Divisional Personnel Officer and McDonnell Douglas where he entered his first managerial role with responsibilities for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
This was soon followed by positions at Siemens AG – initially as Sales Manager for the Computer Systems Division in the UK, General Manager for Telecommunications and subsequently Senior Vice President Worldwide with responsibilities for 1,000 personnel and US $400m.
In 2000, Huw was invited to Sweden to represent Venture Capital companies in turning around high tech companies.
Since returning to the UK in 2009 he has been CEO of OXIS Energy Limited, a company specialising in the development of new chemistry and technology for the displacement of the petrol engine in vehicles.
Huw is married to Frances, whom he met at University. They have 4 daughters, Carys, Rhian, Bethan and Elinor. As well as being Chairman of Wales in London, Huw is passionate about sport and has represented Wales at the World Cup Hockey Masters on many occassions with Wales achieving its highest ranking at the Hague in 2014. He hopes to represent Wales at the same event in Newcastle, Australia next year.
